Zac Goldsmith's EDM on single use bags is now live as EDM number 534 http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2012-13/534:
"That this House welcomes the comments by the Prime Minister that the recent rise in carrier bag use is unacceptable and the statement by the Departmentfor Environment, Food and Rural Affairs that if the use of carrier bags does not decrease, the Government will consider taking additional measures; further welcomes the Break the Bag Habit campaign by the Campaign to Protect Rural England, Keep Britain Tidy, the Marine Conservation Society and Surfers Against Sewage and the Greener upon Thames Plastic Bag Free campaign; and calls on the Government to require retailers to impose a charge on all single use carrier bags, replicating the successful scheme in Wales and many other countries."
Please ask your MP to sign, though if he is, like local MO Ed Davey, a minister, he can't!
Zac Goldsmith has also been successful in applying for a Westminster Hall Adjournment debate on “Government policy on plastic bags” on Wednesday 17th October . It is a half an hour debate(11:00 am - 11:30), and he intends to make a very short speech and allow as much room for intervention as possible by other MPs.
