Galleywood Festival - An illustrated talk The Somme and Ypres, a personal journey

Tuesday 24 May 2016
19:30 to 21:30

The Somme and Ypres, a personal journey. An illustrated talk by John and Wendy Cummin. This is a talk, illustrated with John’s photos, about our experiences and discoveries when visiting the battlefields in 2012.

Having been supplied with a vast amount of background information, we were able to understand the significance of an isolated wooden cross, the poignancy of a man “missing” on 1st July 1916 and found at this spot in the late 1990’s.

Also the story behind a plaque on a bench, and much more.

And finding the exact spot where a Galleywood man went “over the top” on 1st July 1916, never to be seen again, made it seem very real.

It’s really about our experiences which made the battlefields come to life.
