The Galleywood Common Association (GCA) was Inaugurated in 1987 following an 'invasion' of The Common by a large band of itinerant road menders who camped on the race course for several days to the great consternation of local people,
The aim of the GCA is to unite all those who want to preserve the beauty and amenity of The Common. The Common is owned by Chelmsford City Council and the Association looks to establish an association with the Parks Services Department who carry out the maintenance work on the Common.
The association welcomes members that live in Galleywood and apreciates feedback on the upkeep, maintenance and amenity of the common. The Association Committee meets several times a year and reviews the maintenace activities against the agreed ten year maintenance plan.
