Today’s volunteering is organised by Glendale Services  who have a contract with the borough to work with local ‘Friends Groups’ on a number of Richmond managed green spaces, under the optimistic brand ‘Nature’s Gym’.  Their representative is Gina Beresford.  Gina has been working with local volunteers for several years and is very committed to the improvement of the common.  Sessions run on weekdays from 10.30am to about 1pm and volunteers meet at the King’s Ride Gate to the common.  John Savage posts the dates online, normally about two months ahead.  Gina arrives in a Nature’s Gym vehicle with gloves and all the gardening weaponry necessary, along with coffee and chocolate biscuits for elevenses.  No arboricultural skill or experience is required as Gina and John are on hand to advise on the day's tasks. It is a friendly group and affords real satisfaction as we gradually see a more attractive and diverse common develop.
As weekday mornings will be impossible for many we intend to arrange some weekend sessions later this year.
