Drains around Countesswells Close were altered.

Dozens of Aberdeen drains dug up after issues found

Around 90 drains have been dug up and adjusted at a new housing development after they were laid incorrectly.

Residents living in the Dandara development at Hazelwood, Aberdeen, and close by have been angered by some of the works carried out on the site.

Aberdeen City Council assessed the drains and ordered Dandara to fix the problem.

Councillor Martin Greig, who represents the area, said: “The drains have caused a problem at the development, which can be seen with them being dug up.

“There has clearly been a problem, as well as a visual impact, which I am glad Dandara has now fixed, however the road still looks a mess.”

William Sell, vice-chairman of Craigiebuckler and Seafield Community Council, said: “Around 90 drains weren’t laid properly at the site, which has been discussed at the community council. It is disappointing to hear they laid them wrong but it is good they have taken the decision to fix them.”

Aberdeen City Council confirmed they instructed Dandara to carry out remedial works at the development.

Meanwhile, residents in Countesswells Crescent have complained the development has caused a burn behind their houses to dry up.

Gerald Mitchell has lived on the street for 14 years and said the burn was one of the attractions of the house.

He said: “The burn used to run quite a bit at the back. In the summer it may have dried up but since the development it has dried up and doesn’t run at all, only if there is heavy rain.”

Kevin McBain has lived on the street for 15 years and is fed up with the development.

He said: “The burn used to be about two feet deep, but since the development was built it has dried up. This development has been an absolute nightmare, from the burn to the traffic on the road and the dust in the summer.”

Another resident, who did not want to be named, added: “We had a problem with the drainage and the toilets wouldn’t flush. We don’t know the source of it, whether it was the development or from the burn.”

Dandara declined to comment after being contacted.
