In May this year some new rules come into force about personal data, and we need to tell you about your new rights. This covers every organisation which holds information about you, not just your Talking Newspaper
You have the right to be informed;
This means that we must tell you what data we have and where we got it from. We hold your name, your address, and contact telephone number. We either got this information from you directly, from a relative or from a carer or friend with your implicit consent.
• You have the right of access;
This means that if you ask for it, we must, and will, send to you in writing full details of the personal information we hold on you and what we use it for.
• You have the right to rectification;
This means that if you believe our records are wrong and you ask us to correct your information, we must do so.
• You have the right to erasure;
This means if you tell us that you want to stop using the Talking Newspaper service, we will delete your data. Please note that if you ask us to erase your contact information we will no longer be able to provide you with the service.
• You have the right to restrict processing;
This means that you can ask us not to use your data, even though we might store it. For example, you might ask us to stop sending you recordings for a period of time - but you will have to give us consent to start sending them again, otherwise we will no longer be able to provide you with the talking newspaper service.
• You have the right to data portability;
This right means that some organisations, such as banks and utility companies, must store your data in a certain way so that it can be easily passed on to other organisations when you ask. The talking newspaper will not pass your details on to anyone else. We will only use the information you have given us for the purposes of providing the talking newspaper to you.
• You have the right to object to any direct marketing:
This right means that you now have a legal right to object to direct marketing (things like personally-addressed "junk mail"), and the person or organisation who is sending you that marketing must stop. They have no right to refuse. Chelmsford Talking Newspaper does not and will not use direct marketing.
• You have the right not to be subject to automated decision-making including profiling;
This right is mostly concerned with decision-making programmes you might find on websites - good examples are on-line applications for bank loans or insurance products. Chelmsford Talking Newspapers do not use these tools.
