Summer round up!

Well it’s been a jam packed summer at the YCP! Over the 6 weeks we ran 21 activities, some of which were over more than one day, and saw 280 young carers! We have had an amazing time and wanted to share some of our highlights with you all.

We kicked off the summer with the annual Dragon Boat Race organised by our friends at Kingston Rotary Club. It was an amazing day and we didn’t come last! We even improved on our time throughout the day.

Unfortunately, our planned trip on the Volharding had to be cancelled as there was something wrong with the boat. I guess that’s understandable for something that is 120 years old! Instead we took our lovely young carers on a trip to London, where we had a boat ride down the river, a trip on the cable cars at the O2 arena and a great lunch.

We had an amazing time at Thorpe Park, kindly funded by Merlin. Our day was action packed and full of scary rides!

We also ran our very successful 4 day Drama workshop at the Corner House Theatre, with our friendly actor Paul. The young carers' play was truly epic and even included some Disney villains!

Courtesy of a grant from the Hedley Foundation, we enjoyed a FULL day of fantastic activities at Three Peaks Outdoor Pursuits. As usual our instructors were great and we loved conquering the high ropes, low ropes, quad biking, archery and team building!

Another highlight was our two camping trips to Walton Firs Activity Centre. Our first was with the 12+ group where we had to say goodbye to Andora and the second with our under 12’s. We always have a great time and this year we didn’t even have to sleep in the tents! We decided to glamp it up in Brunswick hut.

That’s a very brief snapshot of some of our activities! We would also like to say a huge thank you to our friends at the Horse Rangers Association for our 2 riding sessions; Eddie Catz soft play; the Carers Trust for funding our family Seaside trip and ALL of the volunteers who helped out every day of the holidays.
