MAMA Youth Project Newsletter - 2010
Just passing through with the latest newsletter from MYP and “What’s Up”:
News so far:-
- MYP will be hosting it's event night at BAFTA on the 8th July. This event is a call to arms to funders, industry and organisations. It is their chance to meet us, find out what we do, and support our work. It is also a celebration of our success to date.
- MYP was invited to the first ever Cultural Diversity Network (CDN) Award ceremony on the 24th Nov 2009, to celebrate and promote excellence in diverse, creative output in the TV sector. After much hammering at the door, CEO, Bob Clarke was invited to give a speech at the awards hosted by Channel 4.
And MYP is also thrilled to announce that Bob won an award in the category of special recognition for working tirelessly behind the scenes to promote diversity….What a night!!!

- MYP is working on a documentary with BSkyB on their Sky Green Project, aimed at helping students become more aware of sustainability, and helping local schools function in a more sustainable manner. Filming started early this autumn and so far four of our recent trainees have been involved in the project.
- The electronic report from the European Commission on Media Diversity of which MYP reached the top 30 is now ready to view online on:

- MYP’s already success rate of 31% for those finding work within the industry after ''What's Up'' will be added to, as already two trainees from April 2010 have gained employment in established companies. We will be working hard to improve on this result.
- From “What’s Up” we also been able to give one of the technical team members a professional job from MYP on a corporate basis.
- We will also be launching the new MYP brand logo & website ready for mid-2010.
‘What's Up’ - future training programmes:
The twelfth episode of “What’s Up” has now been done and dusted in April:-
At the start of the production we enjoyed talks with Sid Cole, a Producer from the BBC Children’s and Duncan Gray, Head of Entertainment at BSkyB.
It has been another great show made and we would like to thank all the Production Team involved who worked their socks off as well as contributors and locations who were involved in the show.

Current voluntary positions:
Volunteer Runner/ Office Assistant wanted to provide support in the day to day work of a small charity in support of its various projects. This is a varied role which will include answering phones, data input, filing, research and general admin. The runner/office assistant role offers an opportunity to learn about every aspect of the industry, providing a good entry-level role into the film and television industry. Must be able to commit to the agreed dates and times, with a minimum of x3 days a week, Mon – Fri. Maximum time with us is up to 4 weeks. You will be expected to comply with the policies and procedures of MYP.
Should display good organisation skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and general IT skills.
Duties include:
• To keep the office tidy & clean at all times, including emptying the bins when full.
• To offer and make tea/coffee etc for all staff and visitors.
• General office administration
• To keep the kitchen clean & tidy including all equipment such as the microwave & kettle.
• To obtain, make or prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner for all staff and visitors.
• To keep (if runner/driver) all company vehicle’s clean & tidy.
• To make sure all crew equipment is charged.
• Logging tape footage
• To maintain the tape library.

Please note travel expenses are paid for volunteering. We cover the travel cost of a days pass between zones 1-6 only. Anything outside of this would be a cost to the volunteer.
