Joining a Union
A union is an organisation of workers who represent the workforce of a
company or establishment who act together to protect and secure the
rights and appropriate benefits of people in the workplace.
Unions are considered to be quite powerful, as the carry they thoughts and
opinions and are the representative of thousands of employees.
UK law states that you have the right to choose to join a union when you
are 16. If you choose to join a union, they will advise you on your rights at
work and will provide assistance if you need to resolve issues you may
have with your employer. Ask your colleagues if they are members of a
union, what services they provide and who your union representative is.
