Seasons / Weather
UK weather follows four distinct seasonal changes, and sometimes these changes can be abrupt and
suprising. Listed below are all of the seasons, the characteristics to each season, and the months that
they occur:
Spring
March, April and May
During Spring, the temperature gradually increases from the cold of Winter. Sunshine is more evident
and the days become generally more pleasant.
Summer
June, July and August
Summer is the warmest period of the year. People generally take
holidays during this time because of the good weather and the longer
hours of daylight.*
Autumn
September, October and November
During Autumn, rain becomes more frequent and the temperature
begins to drop. This is a transitional period before Winter comes again.
Winter
December, January and February
Temperatures fall considerably through Winter. Rain, ice and snow
are common occurences during these months. The hours of daylight
are now the shortest of the year.*
*In the UK, we have ‘daylight saving time'. On the last Sunday in March we set our clocks forward
by one hour. On the last Sunday in October we change them back by one hour.
