Welcome to North Lincolnshire
North Lincolnshire has many different faces - urban, rural,
young and old, prosperity and deprivation, traditional and
new. We also have a thriving mix of racial and cultural
communities.
The needs and aspirations of the communities can be
different. Ensuring they are recognised and working
together, is the key to achieving our vision. A mainly rural
area, North Lincolnshire is home to over 160,000 people,
with market towns sur rounded by many small villages. In
the centre of the area is the town of Scunthorpe which is
the main area for jobs, shopping and education.
Much of the social and economic structure is based on manufacturing and agriculture.
Tourism has also benefited from investment totalling over £18 million over the last five years.
This includes the seven-screen Cinema, the Speedway and an outdoor café area in Scunthorpe,
as well as Waters' Edge Country Park and Visitor Centre and new artists' studios at The Ropewalk
in Barton upon Humber. Major expansion programmes are underway at several of the area's top
hotels and new spa facilities have been developed.
North Lincolnshire has an officially recorded BME population of 3.5% from the 2001 census but
more recent estimates indicate that this figure is likely to be significantly higher.
North Lincolnshire Council's vision is: ‘Many Faces: Once Community - Transforming North
Lincolnshire towards a better future.''
