Summary/Overview:
Despite its name this guide is not intended for citizens directly. It is aimed at adults working with children and young people who want to include them in community decision making. The document contains three main sections: ‘Starting Up’, ‘Preparation’ and ‘Taking Action’. These sections each contain methods, hints and tips, and signposting to other useful resources. Case studies and activities are also included in some sections.
The practical advice and examples are clearly written, and the document itself is easy to read which makes it easy to find information and to digest information in bite-size sections.
The document provides a thorough and concise guide to undertaking community engagement projects with children and young people. Important information is signposted clearly, and advice is grounded in practical experience. Background information is also provided on children’s human rights in the context of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
An additional benefit is the included jargon buster which defines the technical vocabulary and acronyms used.
