Summary/Overview:

The Development Trusts Association (DTA) is the national body for development trusts in the UK. The association defines development trusts as community led not for profit organisations which cultivate enterprise and build assets in order to secure community prosperity; there are currently over 400 such trusts across the UK. . The stated aim of the DTA is “a successful development trust in every community that wants one.”

The DTA strives to support the formation of new development trusts, support existing development trusts work more effectively and to campaign for the interest of development trusts. There are also regional structures for development trusts within the association.

DTA offers a number of products and services including a self assessment ‘Healthcheck’ tool for development trusts, discounted or free legal advice for members, a knowledge and skills exchange programme and a programme of national conferences and seminars. The organisation also administers the Rural Community Enterprise Challenge Fund.
