Summary/Overview:
Quest-net is a web portal for people involved in community activities; it features a large resource bank, web links, events listings, news and a contacts book for members. The front page features a list of categories which when clicked on, leads to a list of useful resources broken down by type. The search engine is accurate and helpful when looking for particular topics, but the front page itself is cluttered and a little confusing.
The glossary/dictionary sections are excellent, as they explain terms in a straightforward way and also as all of the relevant entries appear at the bottom of each page, for ease of use. There is a handy contacts map/address book which users can add themselves to for free. This provides a list of contacts based in different areas, although only a few towns are featured at present. The scrolling ‘news ticker’ at the side of the page is also a good feature, allowing a number of relevant headlines to appear on the home page.
The site has an extensive list of links, which is let down by the lack of a useful search tool. The structure of the site is also a little over complicated, and the graphic design does not assist comprehension of the information.
