The ‘MyNeighbourhoods’ site provides a portal which allows local people to connect with one another via online forums and a messaging service. There is an emphasis on providing information about an area you are living in, or are considering moving to. The site brings together a variety of useful information on local matters including local sellers, photos of the area, events listings, jobs listings, and an interactive map of property for sale.

The site content is dependent on the number of users in your area, so the development of a critical mass of users is essential to the success of the site. Currently the site is in the process of developing its online community Although the site is clearly designed and laid out there is an emphasis on commerce over community which although is valuable in its own right, does not make it a tool which has community engagement as its sole purpose. Whether this approach will in fact prove a success in terms of connecting communities is not yet known.
