Summary/Overview:
The Local Democracy Campaign website aims to:
- “make councils more relevant and useful to young people
- encourage young people to 'take part take power'
- make Local Democracy Week bigger and better than before
- increase councillor involvement in citizenship teaching in schools
- get councils to devolve power, wherever appropriate, to local people”
Useful democratic engagement ideas are provided in the resources section including the ‘I’m a councillor get me out of here’ activity. There is also information on how to source funding for projects, as well as links to a number of toolkit-style resources.
A selection of case studies is featured on the site along with the opportunity for members to link to the campaign from their own website and e-cards that can be used to spread the word on your own initiative. The site has a clear message and is also useful in terms of providing access to other supporters in your area; it is a good starting point for becoming involved in the campaign although little background information is provided.
