Sept - Dec

Group

  • Good support on our Maintenance Day resulted in cleared paths, filled potholes, cleaned gutters, cleared bric-a-brac
  • A noisy double-decker bus visited the Blackpool Illuminations
  • We attended Kirkham's Remembrance Day service and parade
  • We hosted a District presentation evening on International Opportunities for Young People aged 14+ from 2017-2019
  • We ran a Hot Dog stall at the Kirkham Lights switch-on and made £100 for the Christmas Lights organisation and £80 for the Group

Beavers

  • We had a noisy and energetic Open Evening with plenty of parents who got involved with all the action
  • Started Photographers Badge, Communicator Badge, and Skills Challenge Badge
  • Completed Health & Fitness Badge
  • Held a Diwali night and made Diwali Candles
  • Made Halloween Crafts
  • 14 went on the Group Blackpool Illuminations Trip
  • Had a joint evening with the Cubs. Had a campfire
  • We are having a night at DHQ – Climbing and Shooting

Cubs

  • Had a very successful Survival Camp which involved kayaking, hiking, camping and cooking
  • Completed the Road Safety Badge, International Badge
  • Starting the My Faith Badge
  • Went on the Group Blackpool Illuminations Trip
  • Had a joint evening with the Beavers. Had a campfire
  • Visited Weeton Barracks
  • Attended a Survival Camp to Mowbreck (older Cubs)
  • Had a Chef`s Camp at the Scout Hut (younger Cubs)

Scouts

  • Had a very successful Survival Camp which involved kayaking, hiking, camping and cooking
  • Attended the Crew Challenge at Beacon Fell
  • Attended the District Older Scout weekend camp

 April - July

Group

  • We were probably the largest Group at the District St George's Day event at St Annes
  • 54 of us attended an action-packed 3-day Family Camp at Waddecar, near Beacon Fell
  • We took part in Kirkham's Club Day walk
  • We attended the Mayor's Civic Sunday service

Beavers

  • Enjoyed a joint meeting with the Cub Pack
  • Also held a joint meeting with 1st Clifton Beavers
  • Worked towards the Cyclist and Global Issues badges

Cubs

  • The Pack visited the Fire Station at Springfields working for the Fire Safety badge
  • They visited 'Pets at Home' for the Animal Carer badge
  • Further work was done for the Naturalist badge
  • Enjoyed a joint meeting with the Beaver Colony

Scouts

  • Had a Survival Camp at Mowbreck campsite

January - March

Beavers

  • Enjoyed a joint Winter Camp with the Cubs at DHQ, St Annes
  • Learnt campfire songs and how to pack a sleeping bag and rucksac
  • Chinese New Year / Polish Night / Pancake Night / St Patrick's Day
  • Creative and Oudoor Challenge badgework

Cubs

  • Enjoyed a joint Winter Camp with the Beavers at DHQ, St Annes
  • Held two Music Talent evenings listening to Cubs making music
  • Were visited by a dentist
  • Were visited by the YMCA (not dentists!)
  • Pancake Night

Scouts

  • Two evenings of Climbing, Archery & Shooting at DHQ, St Annes
  • Went cycling at the Manchester velodrome
  • Held a wide game at Beacon Fell as a joint activity with Eccleston Scouts
  • Pancake “Bake-Off “ Challenge 
  • DIY badgework

July - December

Group

  • We attended the delightful Christingle at St Michael's Church
  • We ran a food and drink stall at Kirkham's Christmas Lights switch-on
  • We received a letter from Kirkham Town Council thanking us for our support for Kirkham In Bloom - Kirkham won Gold!
  • We had a very large turnout for Kirkham's Remembrance Day parade
  • Lantern Making Workshop in preparation for Torchlight parade on Kirkham Christmas Lights switch-on, 2 December
  • Tidied Remembrance Way for Kirkham In Bloom competition - Kirkham won Gold!
  • Disco at Pear Tree School
  • Coach trip through Blackpool Illuminations

Beavers

  • Held a climbing, shooting and archery night at DHQ

Cubs

  • 3 Cubs presented with their Chief Scout's Silver Award
  • Canoeing on canal at Salwick
  • Older Cubs Survival Camp
  • Younger Cubs Hut Camp

Scouts

  • Scout Camp at Great Tower, Windermere
  • Summer Camp at Bowley Scout Campsite, Great Harwood
  • Survival Camp

April - June

 Group

  • Our Group was well represented at the District St George's Day celebration - probably the largest Group there
  • Kirkham Club Day Walk
  • Kirkham Civic Sunday Service
  • Maintenance Day

 Beavers

  • Working on team work challenge badge and Pets at Home badge
  • 13 Beavers went on Jamboree On The Trail
  • Held a climbing, shooting and archery night at DHQ
  • Mothers Day crafts – painted flower pots and then planted sun flowers in them

  Cubs

  • Completed Artist and DIY badges, working towards Environmental Conservation and Athlete badges
  • Held a successful Bring a Friend Night
  • Attended County Cub Camp at Waddecar in June
  • Canoeing at Salwick (June/July)
  • Coming up - Family Cycle Ride (July)

 Scouts

  • Canoeing "Dry Run"
  • Rescue / First Aid Scenarios on the field
  • Canoeing Nights on the canal at the Hand & Dagger
  • Pioneering Challenge
  • Link Night with Trogz
  • 3 Scouts invested on the Canal
  • Planning underway for a summer camp at Bowley.
  • Booked a survival Camp (September) at Silverhelm
  • Booked a Winter Camp (November) at Great Tower

 Group Scout Leader

  • Oversaw fire extinguishers check, one replacement
  • Submitted grant application to Gazette £10K Community Giveaway for help towards a Scout tent. Successful outcome
  • Wrote to support St Michael’s Church bid for lottery money for new set of church bells
  • Added 2K pledge to Kirkham Town Council’s Military Covenant. Noted 2K would like to get involved in Remembrance Way sculpture project
  • Completed new 2K website on new hosting site
  • Continued to compile Scout Section accounts, consolidated total 2K accounts and prepared draft AGM summary
  • Organised Maintenance Day and Fun Day/AGM
  • Submitted rent and rates questionnaire to valuation office

 April

January - March

  • Beavers

    • We joined the Cubs on their winter camp
    • 4 Beavers have been presented with their Bronze award
    • We have done our Experiment badge and World Challenge badge
    • We have made pancakes; decorated a plant pot and planted a sunflower seed in it for Mother’s Day; made a bug house from Junk; we will be making Chocolate nests for Easter
    • Hannah from World of Water came down and chatted to us about her pets and we got to hold some of them

  • Cubs
    • Held a successful Winter Challenge Camp to DHQ St. Annes
    • 6 Cubs were presented with the Chief Scout Silver Award at camp
    • 19 Cubs, 4 Leaders and 3 YLs attended the County Trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach
    • Completed Scientist Badge and Disability Awareness Badge; working towards Artist Badge,model making night as part of this badge
    • Visited Low Vision Centre in Blackpool as part of the Disability Awareness Badge
    • Made Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday; making an Easter Egg Craft
    • Held a Fundraising Fun Day at Scout Hut during Half Term to raise money for the Chilli Children Project in Uganda. Ian Richardson visited Cubs on Tuesday 15th March and was presented with a cheque for £100
    • Attended 100 years of Cubs 'Thank You' Party at DHQ
    • Holding a Bring a Friend Night tomorrow
    • Climbing, Shooting and Archery at DHQ after Easter

  • Back to Basics - Pioneering Challenge / Map Reading Skills / Fire Lighting Skills
  • Fylde District Scouts Indoor Football Competition

  • Circus Skills badge
  • Younger Scout Weekend – 6 Youngest Scouts attended Camp at DHQ

  • 'Invaders Night' at the Willows Club, Kirkham – Fundraising for the 6 international scouts from 2nd Kirkham
  • Survival Skills Camp at Mowbreck Lane Campsite
  • Chinese New Year – Stir Fry, cooking
  • Young Leaders
  • The Beaver and Cub sections have agreed that their 2 most experienced YLs swap section. This provides the individuals with an opportunity to work with a different set of adult leaders and age group of children. This was at their own request which shows a very good level of maturity. This is currently ongoing, with both sets of young leaders enjoying the change
  • In April the next training course - Module A “Getting Started” -   takes place
  • YLs are having a day starting the Fire Area project
  • Group Scout Leader
  • Sorted Safeguarding course for four leaders, including myself
  • Organised Re-Registration forms to update members’ contact details
  • Organised the filling of the potholes
  • Have bought a PIR-triggered floodlight for the area between the hut and containers. Needs installing
  • We need to recruit another Assistant Scout Leader
