Scunthorpe & District Choral Society is a thriving, vibrant and welcoming choir with 110 singing members. Concerts are varied and exciting and the Choir enjoys a fine reputation as one of the best choirs in the North of England. Professional tuition is given at all rehearsals, to people of differing abilities and musicianship.
Overall, our repertoire ranges from Baroque to Modern and we perform with first-class soloists and orchestras. The society is affiliated to Making Music, which represents and supports amateur performing and promoting societies throughout the UK.
The Society meets on Thursday nights between September and April at Frederick Gough School (click for map) in Ashby at 7:30 pm.
We have been around, in one form or another, since 1881 (see the History page).
The first rehearsal will be held on Thursday September 8th. 2016 at Frederick Gough School at 7.45 pm. and thereafter on Thursday evenings at 7.45 pm. From December 1 we will revert to a 7.30 start. New singers are welcome (sopranos, altos, tenors and basses). There is no formal audition ( we run a mentoring scheme ) and expert tuition is given. Contact Tessa Cotterill on 01469 533133 or email email@example.com for further information.
We put on two main concerts each season, as well as a Christmas concert, where we are traditionally joined by the Scunthorpe Co-operative Junior Choir (BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year, 2008, no less!) and the superb East Yorkshire Motor Services Brass Band.
If you're interested in joining - perhaps just to give it a try if you're worried about committing yourself or not sure about your singing ability - just come along. If you've any questions, feel free to ring 01724 735202, or eMail firstname.lastname@example.org first. It's just as well to try to turn up quite early in the given term so that you don't miss too much rehearsal time for the forthcoming concert.
