Scunthorpe & District Choral Society is a thriving and welcoming choir with a dual mission; to provide first class concerts for the public and to meet the needs of members by enabling them to sing well while having a good time.
Our repertoire ranges from Baroque to Modern and we perform with first-class soloists and orchestras. The society is affiliated to Making Music, which represents and supports amateur performing and promoting societies throughout the UK.
The Society meets on Thursday nights between September and April at Frederick Gough School (click for map) in Ashby at 7:30 pm.
We have been around, in one form or another, since 1881 (see the History page) and are considered to be one of the best choirs in the North of England.
Rehearsals start on Thursday September 9th. 2010 at Frederick Gough School at 7.30 pm. New singers are welcome (sopranos, altos, tenors and basses). There is no formal audition ( we run a mentoring scheme ) and expert tuition is given. Contact Tessa Cotterill on 01469 533133 or email bonbymeadow@aol.com for further information.
We put on two main concerts each season, as well as a Christmas concert, where we are traditionally joined by the Scunthorpe Junior Co-operative Choir (BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year, 2008, no less!) and the superb East Yorkshire Motor Services Brass Band.
If you're interested in joining - perhaps just to give it a try if you're worried about committing yourself or not sure about your singing ability - just come along or contact bonbymeadow@aol.com first. It's just as well to try to turn up quite early in the given term so that you don't miss too much rehearsal time for the forthcoming concert.
