Fireworks

It’s bonfire night and the skies are bright.

Fireworks zooming everywhere.

Bonfire sparks down below.

Look. There. WHOAH!

The Hedgehog

The hedgehog is very spiky,

It rustles through the leaves,

When the leaves fall off the trees,

They fall upon his head

Your reviews:

Little White Horse - Elizabeth Goudge

Reviewer: Rosie Scotting - North Lincolnshire Libraries

I read this because I saw it on a book list. Considering it was first out in 1946 it is quite an entertaining read - orphan girl makes good with help of magic, strange animals, weird settings  & the odd bit of shape shifting. The usual big baddies are overcome & a happy ending ensues. I was quite taken with the details of daily (privileged) life, such as servants to help dress you, the training to be a 'proper young lady' (music, riding, deportment) life in a huge old house, the community of eccentric locals & so on.
One thing did strike me though after seeing a quote from J.K.Rowling that she'adored'the book - I suddenly felt that a lot of things seemed familiar, if you know what I mean but mentioning no names Harry ...oops.....
This was a good read with challenging vocabulary - a gentle adventure with plenty to make you think.

Cosmic - Frank Cottrell Boyce

Reviewer: Rosie Scotting - North Lincolnshire Libraries

I loved Millions, & Framed, which really made me hoot. This is also very good & quite funny, but it has a slightly more serious slant which make you think about relationships, expectations & why we do certain things.
The main character wins a trip on a space rocket 'ride' which turns out to be much more than he had bargained for. Great interaction between the children in the group, and also between their parents.One-up-man-ship & manipulation galore. I think adults would appreciate this book as much as their kids. Can you see yourself in any of the characters ? Do you always have to be in control ? oh boy, my turn to hog the remote .....

Horrid Henry's Poem - Francesca Simon

Reviewer: Josh

If you like people throwing up or been sick OR you absolutely love Horrid Henry read Horrid Henry's poem. The poem is ace because it is so funny, I literally laughed my head. So get reading Horrid Henry's Poem now before you throw up!

The Witches - Roald Dahl

Reviewer: Euan

This book is about a boy with two mice and one day his grandma told him about witches and then a couple of days his grandma told him they had to stay at a hotel and then he goes into a room in the hotel and then the doors closes and at least he was at the back of a screen and then he found out they were witches and then they found him and then he got turned into a mouse and then he has an adventure but he does not turn back into a boy.

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe - C.S Lewis

Reviewer: Joshua

I would recommend this book to you because it's a brilliant adventure book. The main characters are Aslan, Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy and The White Witch. The book was set in 1939 when the World War 2 started. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy were evacuated to the countryside. And when the 4 children were playing hide and seek, Lucy discovered a secret snowy land called Narnia!

My brother’s famous bottom - Jeremy Strong

Reviewer: Conor

I didn't like the book because it is only about a baby's bottom and it's a bit stupid because they wanted to put makeup on a baby and they wanted to take a picture of a baby's bottom.

The story of Tracy Beaker - Jacqueline Wilson

Reviewer: Connor

This book is about a girl who is being fostered and has a few attempts at escaping from her home also she gets into a lot of mischief. Tracy is cheeky and very funny and she is my favourite character.

My Brothers Famous Bottom Gets Pinched – Jeremy Strong

Reviewer: Lauren

It was a very great book to read, it is about a boy and a sister called Cheese and their brother called Tomato. His bottom gets pinched by big babies and his brother tries to rescue him. I would recommend the book to anyone who loves funny books

Spongebob Squarepants – Nickelodeon

I recommend Spongebob as a good book for funny, colourful, brilliant and its like a comic.

Nancy Drew girl detective: a race against time

Reviewer: Megan

Resident Evil Zero Hour - SD Perry

Reviewer: Rebecca

This book is horrifying. A girl called Rebecca has to fight blood-sucking zombies before the infection spreads around the world. Until she gets bitten.......

Heard it in the playground - Allan Ahlberg

Reviewer: Jayde

I enjoy this book because there is lots and lots of funny poems in also my most funny poem is The Longest Kiss Contest because it says they have kids complaining to the teacher that people are trying to have the longest kiss ever and they are using stop watches seeing how long they can kiss for.

The story of Tracy Beaker - Jacqueline Wilson

Reviewer: Alexandria

This book is great fun to read I’ve read it at least 5 times, and I loved it every time! This is a book all about a girl called Tracy Beaker who had been dumped at a place they call the dumping ground by her mother. This girl has lot's of imagination also theirs lot's of really funny characters like Elaine their social worker but they call her Elaine the pain! I think this is a fun packed book that everyone will love!!!!

The Twits – Roald Dahl

Reviewer: Aimee

I like The Twits because I like the bit where Mr Twit eats the spaghetti but it’s worms instead and where Mrs Twit lands on her husband and shouts at him for attaching 42 balloons to her all over her body.

The Twits - Roald Dahl

Reviewer: Lewis

Mrs Twit gets revenge on Mr Twit by making wormy spaghetti and Mr Twit doesn't notice. And my favourite character is Mr Twit because he's funny and grumpy.

Horrid History: Ancient Egyptians - Terry Deary

Reviewer: Jake

I would recommend horrid history because you can find out all the gross things and facts from the past like did you know the Egyptians pulled their victims brain out through their nose gross or what!!!

Horrid Henry's Jolly Joke Book - Francesca Simon

Reviewer: Stephen

I like this book because Horrid Henry's nasty to his friends and it is a very funny joke book. I like the part where he pulls girls hair but it makes me laugh!

Beast Quest - Adam Blade

Reviewer: Joshua

The knight climbs up the mountain but he was climbing up a dragon. My favourite part is where he realises that it is a dragon he runs down but the dragon flips him in his mouth.

Harry the poisonous centipede – Lynne Reid Banks

Reviewer: Nathan

It is about a centipede called harry who lives with his mum and she always goes hunting to find food it’s funny and sad and I could read it over and over again.

The Silver Child - Cliff McNish

Reviewer: Daniel

The book is about a child that has a big feast and turns into a greedy pig. He then runs off to Coldharbour and meets somes girls. Together they make a shack. Then one night Milo peels back his skin and turns into a silver child.

Meerkat Mail - Emily Gravett

Reviewer: Rosie Scotting - North Lincolnshire Libraries

This is more than a picture book - it has a lovely story (Sunny leaves home to find somewhere better, then realises there IS nowhere better) but it is also a work of art & an information book.
Every inch of every page is crammed with visual jokes, small print, collage, postcards complete with postmarks, newsclippings, stamps, letters & more jokes.
Gravett has captured the body language of the meerkat mob brilliantly, have a look at the 'guard' & the cute babies.

If you like this, all Emily's books are equally fabulous - another favourite is 'Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears' which has some miniscule small print jokes for parents to appreciate.

The Hat - Carol Ann Duffy

Reviewer: Rosie Scotting - North Lincolnshire Libraries

Superb variety of poems to dip into.
The quick little ones are great to remember (say them out loud to yourself in the lift) but the really really really long ones are funny too.
Try getting your tongue round 'Ran out of sugar' - the words are delicious. Try reciting 'The Hat' - a complete history lesson!!

More reviews coming just as soon as you send me them!
