Rebecca van den Berg (Soprano).

Rebecca van den BergRebecca grew up in Rye, on the East Sussex coast and studied singing, graduating with distinction from the GSMD Opera Course. Competition successes include the Susan Longfield Prize (GSMD) and the Tracey Chadwell Memorial Award (GSMD). Rebecca is also proud to be a Britten-Pears Young Artist, an ENOA Artist and to have been a recipient of a Wingate Scholarship and The RPS Susan Chilcott Scholarship. She studies with Lillian Watson.
Operatic roles for Glyndebourne Opera House include Siren in Rinaldo (with a BBC Proms performance) and Daphne in Charpentier’s La descente d’Orphee aux enfers both with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, as well as understudying Despina (Cosi fan tutte) and Norina (Don Pasquale). At ENO she sang the role of Soprano 1 in Wolfgang Rihm’s Jakob Lenz. Critically acclaimed roles at GSMD include Amine (La rencontre imprevue, Gluck) The nice Caroline (The king goes forth to France, Sallinen) and Fanny (La cambiale di matrimonio, Rossini).
Passionate about the song repertoire, Rebecca has performed recitals in the Paxos, Edinburgh and Oxford Lieder Festivals. She opened the New European Opera recital series in Paris and has also performed recitals at Snape Maltings, St James’s Piccadilly, St Martins in the Field and the National Portrait Gallery. As an Oratorio soloist Rebecca works throughout the UK and Europe with notable performances including Mahler 4 at the Linbury Theatre (ROH) with CHROMA, Bach Cantata 202 at the Iford Festival, Handel’s Chandos Anthems in Cambridge Summer Festival and Elgar's Coronation Ode in the Windsor Festival.
She has sung the role of the Queen of Sheba in Handel’s Solomon at St James’ Piccadilly and the Creation in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with the Faroese Symphony Orchestra!
