Work on the Northern Line has finished - Pic

Work on drilling the tunnels for the Northern Line extention has finished.

After months of drilling using giant boring machines, the tunnelling work is complete as a new tube link for Nine Elms and Battersea comes a step closer.

Work started in April on drilling the lines, which have linked up with the existing Northern Line tunnels at Kennington.

As the machines progressed along the route, precast concreate segments that line the tunnel were put in place.
The material removed was taken away by barge and used to create arable farmlandin Essex.

Construction works is continuning on two new tube stations - Nine Elms station in Pascal Street and Battersea Power Station on Battersea Park Road next to the Power Station development.

These will serve new develpoments such as the US Embassy, the Power Station and the redevelopment  of the New Covent Garden Market,as well as existing communities.  Passengers should be able to ride the Northern Line to Battersea in 2020.

The Northen Line Extention helped to kick start the regeneration of Nine Elms and Vauxhall which is on course to create around 25,000 new jobs and more than 20,000
new homes.

BLUE BADGE ABROAD - Using your Blue Badge in EUROPE (EU)

Travelling abroad

It is advised that holders of the Blue Badges travelling outside of the UK print and display a translation document alongside their badge. These can be downloaded through the following links:

Following the UK leaving the European Union (EU), it remains UK Government’s policy to continue the current level of recognition of the parking card for people with disabilities held by citizens visiting the UK. This policy reflects the UK’s implementation of the Council Recommendation on a Parking Card for People with Disabilities (98/376/EC). It is not certain that EU Member States will continue to respond the current level of recognition of UK blue badge citizens visiting their countries.

Therefore, it is advised to check locally what concessions are available before travelling to EU countries.
It is also advised to always check before travelling somewhere new. There are no current arrangements for the use of the badge outside the European Union, in countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, although they may be prepared to recognise the Blue Badge.

It is advised to check what concessions are available before travelling to non-EU countries.
