Alderman Bowen provides a day service for adults with learning disabilities from Monday to Friday during daytime hours, some people are picked up from their front door - others make their own way in, and a few people use ring and ride.
There are two sister projects one of them is connected to the main Alderman Bowen day centre -The Mary Rose elders bungalow promotes and maintaines life skils for people that are retired from the larger day centre, or want a smaller service which is not unlike a family setting.
The Asian Women’s Centre (10 minutes drive away). A community project catering for the needs of Asian Women with learning disabilities who specifically require an all female environment.
The three centres, while independent in terms of budget, transport and day-to-day operation, have strong ties – they share a senior management team, and staff are often temporarily redeployed to cover staff shortages when necessary.
Each part of the service focuses on outcomes for individuals.
The day services aim to perform the following:
We hope to have extensive inter-agency and service user involvement in the preparation of any future Plans. To support consultation and participation in the planning of services Alderman Bowen has created this web site, we hope it will:
- Developed a 'Communication Strategy' and embarked on a consultation process in line with the Scrunity Committee and modernisation team/leaders who are developing day opportunities for disabled citizens.
- Established a dedicated community team by particpating on the neighbourhood management board: we will distributed information leaflets to our 166 service users and their families.
- Hosted a Person Centred Planning awareness events each year.
- Undertaken presentations to Birmingham's city council.
- Take part in community events
