 YORKSHIRE BACH CHOIR

Crispian Steele-Perkins  trumpet

Peter Seymour  conductor, organ

We commemorate the anniversaries of three major Baroque and Classical composers with a programme of vocal and trumpet music by Purcell, arguably England's finest composer, Handel, arguably England's finest 'adopted' composer and Haydn, who drew much inspiration from his two visits to England at the end of the 18th century.

Crispian Steele-Perkins is one of the world's most admire and skilled baroque trumpeters.  He will perform not only solos with organ but also duets with solo voices by Purcell and his contemporaries.

ZUM

"fiery, passionate and intriguingly beautiful......A delight to hear and a treat to watch" BBC

Adam Summerhayes (violin) and Chris Grist (cello), recently heard in Schubert's Octet with London Concertante, return with music of a different style:

from the diasporan melting pot of cosmopolitan London, ZUM's ground-breaking world fusion weaves melodies from around the globe into an exhilarating musical journey.  Toe-tapping virtuosity, intoxicating harmonies and awesome rhythmic power, ZUM creates an acoustic meltdown - a cultural alchemy, where the world's music collides.

23 April 2010

 MERYON TRIO  (clarinet, cello, piano)

Meryon Trio

BEETHOVEN                        Trio in B flat major, Op 11

ARCHDUKE RUDOLPH OF AUSTRIA    Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano in E flat

ZEMLINSKY                        Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano in D minor, Op 3

BRAHMS       Trio in A minor, Op 114

This fascinating programme features the two greatest works for clarinet trio alongside two lesser-known trios that are strongly connected to them.  Archduke Rudolph of Austria was Beethoven's patron, friend and gifted composition pupil, as well as being the dedicatee of many of Beethoven's greatest works.  Brahms was a great supporter of Zemlinsky, recommending the younger composer's Clarinet Trio to the Simrock publishing house in 1896.
