Village Landmarks

Mavesyn Ridware, Hill Ridware, Pipe Ridware and Blithbury are beautiful places to live. They are also thriving communities in the heart of rural Staffordshire. We hope you enjoy visiting our community website

All four splendid villages are steeped in history that dates back to the Norman Conquest. There is even evidence that people have been living here since Neolithic times.

Today the area is home to around 1,500 people, and is a friendly and thriving community with a church, a school, three pubs, several farms, numerous clubs and societies, a garden centre and even a theatre.

The villages are in an area bounded by the River Trent to the south and west, and the River Blithe to the north. On a map we are just off the B5014 about six miles north west of Lichfield and four miles east of Rugeley.

The name 'Mavesyn' comes from the family name Malvoisin, who was a French Knight. The first Malvoisin in this country acquired the title of Lord of the Manor following the Norman Conquest. The name reputedly means 'Dangerous Neighbour,' and history shows the family lived up to its name.

These pages contain news and information about the area, it's Parish Council, village hall and church. There is also a comprehensive events listing section. Menus are down the left hand side of each page to make navigation as easy as possible.

This map below is from an Ordnance Survey 1:63360 edition showing the are as it was in 1945

Visiting the Parish

Its best to travel by car. Rugeley and Uttoxeter each have a railway station but you would need a taxi to travel onwards to the parish.

The villages are on the B5014 which is also a bus route between Lichfield and Uttoxeter. The last bus leaves Lichfield about 5.30pm.

There are several bed and breakfast options but its essential to book.

There is easy access to some beautiful English countryside and there is an excellent variety of food on offer in the pubs.
