We are working with the Young Carers Project in Hounslow and the Mayor of London  to develop a campaign about the impact that rubbish in parks has on people and wildlife in Hounslow. If you know a young carer who would benefit from being involved in the project get in touch.

A community project set up to encourage young carers to spend more time outside was voted a success by young carers in Richmond.

Let’s Go Outside and Learn CIC worked closely with the Richmond Carers Centre to give young carers the opportunity to spend more time outside. The Young Carers took part in the “Muddy Footprints Challenge”, an environmental stewardship scheme designed by Let’s Go Outside and Learn. The group of young carers aged 7-11 years old had the opportunity to explore nature, wildlife and learn about the outdoors. All the young carers who took part in the project said that they felt less alone as a result of the sessions and had made new friends. Most of them said that they they’d had a break from their caring role and felt better about themselves. Most felt more confident dealing with issues at home and had learnt about their local environment and wildlife.

 Let’s Go Outside and Learn CIC and the Richmond Carers Centre were awarded funding under Heathrow Community Fund’s Communities for Communities Together grants programme to run the project.  We are also grateful to Richmond Civic Trust for match funding the project so that we were able to provide transport for the young carers to and from home.
