The League of British Muslims is successful in accessing funding for Preventing Violent Extremism Project

The League of British Muslims was successful in its grant application to the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) for its preventing violent extremism programme called "Let's Send the Right Message".

This programme has one overarching aim:

To work towards preventing radicalisation and violent extreemism amongst British Muslims.

In order to fulfil this overarching aim, a number of strategic objectives have been developed:

  1. To build the capacity of Muslim faith leaders and Muslims community leaders to communicate to young people in a language they can understand, using a means of communication to which they can relate, and focus on issues that are relevant to them as British Muslims.
  2. To build the capacity of Muslim faith leaders, Muslims community leaders and Councillors, and young Muslims to deal effectively with the media on issues related to Islam and British Muslism.

The project will:

Deliver regional Communication Development Programmes to Muslim Faith and Community Leaders, and Muslim Councillors.

This is to be effected by:

Holding 3 one day training events in each of the four regions targeted by the programme. Each training event will involve about 15 Muslim faith leaders, 20 Muslim community group leaders, and 5 Muslim councillors. The training will focus on communication, listening and presentation skills.

If you live in one of the four project England regions - Greater London; East England: South East England or the East Midlands - and are a Mulsim faith or community leader, or local Muslim Councillor, you are the person we are looking for!

If you are concerned about the increase in radicalisation and violent extremism and would like to receive free training in Communication, Listening and Presentation Skills so that you can communicate more effectively with your community and the media, then please contact Bashir Chaudhry on 020 8514 0706 or email him at leagueofbm@btconnect.com.
