Pakistan, Qatar to further foster ties in multiple fields: GilaniDOHA, Qatar, Feb 8 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said his visit to Qatar would lead to further strengthening of bilateral ties in areas of defence, defence production, energy and construction.In his remarks prior to his departure here, Prime Minister Gilani termed the visit “a success” and expressed satisfaction that it saw signing of several extremely beneficial accords between the two countries mainly on import of Liquefied Natural Gas, security cooperation and collaboration in hydrocarbon development.Gilani said the visit led to exploration of new avenues of cooperation and after nine years, it was an extremely important high level interaction between Prime Minister of Pakistan and Qatari Emir and Prime Minister.

Regularization of PBC contract employees soon: Dr FirdousKARACHI, Feb 8 (APP): Federal Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan Wednesday said the contract employees of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) will be regularized shortly.Addressing the workers during her visit to Radio Pakistan Karachi Studios, she said that PPP government has not only reinstated the services of retrenched government employees, but also paid them their dues for the “retrenchment period”. Pakistan committed to gas pipeline project with Iran: ZardariISLAMABAD, Feb 7 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday said Pakistan is committed to early implementation of Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline Project in order to meet the ever growing demand of the country for energy and power. Government respects SC decisions: Rehman MalikISLAMABAD, Feb 7 (APP):- The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led coalition government respects the Supreme Court and is implementing its decisions in letter and spirit, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Tuesday.Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House he said, “We are honuoring and implementing the decisions of Supreme Court in letter and spirit.”To a question, the minister said, there are reports indicating involvement of foreign hands in the prevailing situation of Balochistan.Natural resources are in abundance in Balochistan and it is a conspiracy hatched by the anti-state elements to keep the situation disturbing there, he said. Parliament to take decision on NATO supplies: Rehman MalikISLAMABAD, Feb 7 (APP): Minister for Interior A Rehman Malik on Tuesday said that the Parliament would take any decision on NATO supplies routes. Talking to media persons here, the Interior Minister said Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had announced that only the Parliament’s decision on NATO supplies would be implemented. Regarding negotiations with the opposition on 20th Amendment, he said that Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Khursheed Shah was holding talks with opposition parties to develop a consensus. He hoped that all the conflicting issues would be resolved through negotiations.

Dr. Firdous for effective legislation to control malpractices in medical professionISLAMABAD Feb 7 (APP): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Tuesday supported efforts to enact laws for controlling malpractices in the medical profession. Speaking in National Assembly on a private member’s Medical and Dental Council (amendment) Bill, the minister said, it will bring the medical colleges into certain parameters and discourage malpractices. Rehman Malik orders to probe parliamentarian carrying weapon in NAISLAMABAD, FEB 7 (APP): Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday ordered to probe whether any parliamentarian came to the National Assembly along with weapon. 10 dead, 11 injured retrieved from collapsed buildingLAHORE, Feb 6 (APP): Ten dead and 11 injured persons have so far been retrieved from the debris of a 3-storey medicine factory building that collapsed due to a cylinder/boiler blast at Multan Road here Monday morning. According to Rescue 1122 officials, the ten dead included seven women, two men and a teenager, while all 11 injured had been shifted to Jinnah Hospital. Those who lost their lives were identified as Salma, Fauzia, Nasrin, Maryum, Shakeela Iqbal and two men including Tanveer, Asif, a teenager and an unknown woman. However, the hospital sources confirmed that four persons with minor injuries had been discharged after first-aid, while a labourer, Mushtaq, was in critical condition owing to severe burn injuries.

Four Additional Judges of LHC confirmedISLAMABAD, Feb 5 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari has confirmed the nomination of four Additional Judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) as judges of the LHC. The confirmed judges are: Mr Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali, Mr Justice Mamoon Rashid Shaikh, Mr Justice Muhammad Irfan Khan and Mr Justice Syed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi. Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that the nominations for the confirmation of the judges had been made by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan. The nominations were subsequently unanimously confirmed by the Parliamentary Committee under clause 9 of Article 175 A of the Constitution on January 30. Gilani due in Doha tomorrow; talks to focus on LNG importBy Shumaila Andleeb DOHA, Qatar, Feb 5 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani is arriving here Monday on a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening ties with the Gulf state in multiple areas including import of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) to meet the country’s energy demands. Gilani will also discuss with the Qatari leadership the issue of finalization of transnational formalities to import LNG at the earliest, a Foreign Office official told APP. Pakistan is interested in importing 500 million cubic feet per day of LNG from Qatar that produces 77 million tonnes per annum of LNG. US welcomes FM Khars visit to KabulWASHINGTON, Feb 3 (APP) : Welcoming Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar’s visit to Afghanistan, the State Department on Thursday said the United State supports efforts towards improved ties between the two South Asian countries in wide-ranging areas. “It seems to have been a good and well-timed visit,”State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said at the daily briefing, adding that Washington awaits debriefing from officials of both countries on the visit to Kabul by Pakistani foreign minister this week. President gives assent to the Carriage by Air BillISLAMABAD, Feb 3 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari Friday gave assent to the Carriage by Air Bill 2012. The bill was first passed by the National Assembly on May 11, 2011. The Senate passed it on October 28, 2011 with amendment and returned to the Assembly under Clause-2 of Article 70 of the Constitution. The National Assembly in pursuance of Article 70 of the Constitution again passed the bill as amended by the Senate on December 30, 2011. The bill seeks to give effect in Pakistan to the Conventions concerning international carriage by Air known as the Montreal Convention. The President signed the bill on the advice of the Prime Minister.

President signs instruments of RatificationISLAMABAD, Feb 3 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari Friday confirmed the instrument the ratification of the agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation between Pakistan and Romania. The agreement between the two countries was signed on September 12, last year followed by the Cabinet decision to ratify the same. The President on the advice of the Prime Minister today affixed his signature and seal confirming that the government had ratified the articles of the Agreement. Under the agreement the two sides shall encourage bilateral cooperation in economic, scientific and technical fields.

President grants remission on Eid-e-Milad un Nabi (PBUH)KARACHI, Feb 3 (APP): President Asif Ali Zardari, on the advice of the Prime Minister, has granted special remission in sentences to prisoners on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad -un- Nabi (Peace be Upon Him).The special remission in sentences ranges from 45 days to total remission in different categories.President granted the special remission of 90 days to the prisoners convicted for life imprisonment except those convicted for murder, espionage, anti-state activities, sectarianism and zina (Section 10 Offence of zina (Enforcement of Hudood) Ordinance, 1979 (also under Section 377 PPC), robbery (Section 394 PPC) dacoity (Section 395-396 PPC), kidnapping/ abduction (Section 364-A and 365-A), and terrorist acts (as defined in the Anti-Terrorism (second Amendment) Ordinance, 1999 (No XIII of 1999).
