Where do I Start?

In an emergency, always call 999.

The Police Officers will usually arrest, & remove or hold your abuser in another room; this is to give you the oppertunity to speak freely. They will take a statement from you, using an Interpreter if required. There are specially trained, experienced Domestic Violence Officers who may also contact you, they keep you informed of what is happening with the investigation & advise you about other sources of help & support available locally.
After the Police have charged your abuser, they can impose bail conditions eg. to keep away from your home, prevent hin/her communicating/harassing you.

Getting away from abuse can be a lengthy process. Many victims leave & return many times before finally making the break.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP WHENEVER YOU NEED IT!
