Ch Supt Bilson expressed his concern with the increase in theft from motor vehicles, residential burglary and knife enabled crime. There had been 4 recent incidents involving guns or knives in the borough but a number of arrests had been made and some guns and knives had been removed from the streets.  Also, Hounslow Police were working to stop reprisal attacks to gang related incidents.

Police Officers were leaving stickers on cars to encourage owners not to leave valuables visible.

QUESTIONS TO THE BOROUGH COMMANDER:

Ch Supt Bilson agreed to look into giving Neighbourhood Watch Associations (NWA) access to crime stats for neighbouring patches.

Theft of metal had increased in the last 2 years but it hadn’t affected War Memorials.  It might be possible to use SMART water to protect War Memorials in LBH.

TACKLING BURGLARY IN LBH:

Supt Paul Martin talked to members about
 where burglary hotspots were
 peak times / days
 entry methods
 common items taken

Hounslow South hadn’t featured as a hotspot area because of the hard work the local Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) had done to tackle the issue.

He told members about the different tactics the Police were using to reduce residential burglary:

 Operation Hawk focused   police efforts on known offenders and locations between 6am and 6pm.
 Publishing photos of the top 10 burglars on the MPS website and in the local press
 Town Centre Police Teams carrying out burglary patrols in hotspots
 Plain clothes officers
 Stop & Search
 Intelligence gathering
 Warrant “Hit Days”
 Using media to channel Crime Prevention advice

The Police use the Victim Offender Location Time (VOLT) system to analyse crime patterns.  This helps ensure it gets maximum impact from its resources.

Looking forward to Christmas, members were reminded to pass on the message that packaging for high value electronic goods should be disposed of carefully to avoid attracting unwanted attention to a household.  Please pass on the message to friends and family.

HOUNSLOW CPCG VISIT TO KESTON DOG TRAINING CENTRE

On 11th October a group of Hounslow CPCG Members had a guided tour of Keston Dog Training Centre led by Sgt Russ Jackson.  They sat in on an initial explosive detection training course.  Toys, not food, were used to reward the dogs and this only happened once they had clearly indicated a find.  Dogs are trained to search for either explosives or drugs not both.  They can also be trained to locate people, firearms, cash and body parts.
