The positioning of the new public toilet was discussed. It will be in the football changing rooms and completed outside the football season next. The 106 money will fund this. It is hoped to upgrade the changing rooms at the same time.

Planting of the new bulds by nearby primary school children will go ahead this next week. Some 5000 bulbs will be planted in various areas in the park.

The new cycle way that will run from Broomie close entrance to the Rectory road entrance will soon be started.

Some of the benches were now ready to be installed. This will be in the near future.

The use of public space for organised ball games was discussed. David Pears promised to investigate the policy and the insurance implecations.

A lot of ground was covered and hopefully a lot of positive things will come from the work the friends have put in.

Please go to the Photo Album to see the photographs of the planting of the whips.

 Report by Peter Bell:
On a fine hot sunny day some 19 children from Hollyfield Primary School, aided by the Warden Beth Ashley, teachers and the Friends of Rectory Park planted around 1,000 hawthorn whips along side a 150 meters of an old hedge in Rectory Park.  This hedge had recently professionally laid by Ron Smart.  Beth demonstrated how the children should plant the whips and to be careful about the thorns on the plants before the children set about the task, with gusto and enthusiasm.  The whips were supply by the Trees for Life, organised by the Friends of Rectory Park with the support of Birmingham Parks Department.  The planting took around one & half hours and was followed by a well earned drink of orange squash and a chocolate Easter egg
