Madingley Update

MADINGLEY FIRE UPDATE

Just over a week after the fire which devastated the top floors of Madingley Tower Block, residents who lived there are still coming to terms with what has happened.

The Community Group would like to thank everyone who has donated, called and offered help or simply showed up and pitched in. The sight of so much support was a key factor in keeping people’s spirits up last week. We can assure you that nothing will go to waste. Whilst we shall soon have to wind down the full scale operation which has been running from Piper Hall, we have made plans to ensure that Madingley residents have their pick of items before passing the rest on to organisations where it can do the most good.

DONATIONS

CREST FIRE FUND

Donations to the fund have continued to arrive with the fund currently amounting to just a little over £6000.

The fund trustees are ex councillors Ed Naylor &  Sheila Griffin plus  Maria Tunmer from KVA.  They met in September and drafted a letter that has been sent to all Madingley residents explaining how the funds are being allocated - ie:  Each household will receive and equal share of the total.  They met again on 12th October to agree how the funds could be most fairly distributed.  As a result of this meeting it has been agreed that all 57 households affected will receive either a Tesco or Asda gift voucher for approximateley £106 per household.  This may increase a little according to the fund value at the time of purchase. In addition to this it was agreed that the vouchers will be hand delivered to each resident in mid December so that they have the extra income in time for Christmas.

Meanwhile, any questions or comments regarding the fund can be directed to the CREst office (0208 547 6910) or to Sheila Griffin, Trustee:  0208 399 2325.
