The Network

The FREE Internet access on the Cambridge Estates is delivered by WiFi (wireless) technology.

Network Coverage

ComConnected is nearing the end of its Pilot Phase. At present, coverage across the Estates is vastly improved for all. We now need to hear your feedback and continuing encouragement to refine and improve further.

UPDATE (15/12/2008): Following huge effort over recent months and successful installation of eight new access points about the estate we are pleased to round off 2008 confirming 100% connectivity across the Estate.

Signal Strength

Most areas of the estate now receive a decent Comconnected open wireless signal. Please post a support ticket if you experience problems describing your location and method of connection - USB etc.

Community Connected     is able to provide WiFi adapters to residents of the Estates, for a donation of £10. Our experience shows that, where signal strength is not very good on the Estate, a more powerful WiFi receiver can make all the difference.

Bandwidth

At present, we have approximately 30Mb of internet bandwidth available across the network. Because of the way the Mesh network operates, this bandwidth is shared equally between all users of the network.

Residents on the Estate with private Internet connections are invited to share their bandwidth with the Community Connected     service. (We'll pay for the additional hardware you need.) Please contact us for details.

Because bandwidth will always be limited, and because some of our broadband suppliers impose limits on the amount of data that can be transferred, users of Community Connected     free wireless broadband connection must comply with our 'fair use policy'.
