The Community Coffee Shop in Canbury Pavilion is a partnership initiative between Royal Borough of Kingston's Learning Disability Services and the Canbury Community Trust. It operates from the former bowling pavilion in Canbury Gardens, lovingly restored by the Trust.
The aim of the project is to offer adults with learning disabilities the chance to experience working in a catering environment and to develop new skills, with support on hand if they need it. At the same time, the coffee shop offers passers by and local people somewhere to meet in a friendly community venue over a drink and snack.
The coffee shop has proved particularly popular with mums and tots who use the nearby playground or take part in sports sessions nearby.
On Friday 10 December, we invite you all to get away from the hectic Christmas rush in the town centre....take a stroll along the river... and drop in to the coffee shop between 12pm and 4pm for a mince pie or two with some festive music. Come along and say hello! Who knows.. you may even meet the neighbour you've never seen!
We will also display winter flowering hanging baskets, festive decorations and unique wooden garden gifts produced by the Stud Farm Nursery, based in Home Park; a partnership between Royal Borough of Kingston's Learning Disability Services, Historic Royal Palaces and Kingston Mencap.
We are open from Tuesday to Friday from 12 to 4pm and can be found at the Canbury Pavilion. The venue can be approached from the river between the bandstand and Boaters Inn, or via an entrance off Lower Ham Road, next to the playground in Canbury Gardens.
