We are an active community group that aims "to advance the education of the general public in Irish culture, history and heritage". We are a membership organisation but we welcome the general public to our events, and we are a registered charity. All our activities are carried out voluntarily. Membership is open to all who support our aims. Our current activities include: Monthly Events with a Speaker or occasional films and exhibition followed by discussion on topics of Irish Heritage, held upstairs at the Connaught Bar(formely Irish Club) on the first Wednesday of every month, at 7 pm. An invited speaker leads on their particular interest, followed by questions, discussion & refreshments. These events are free and open to everyone. Publishing feasibility study. We are researching the possibility of publishing cards, pamphlets and books about the Irish community in Birmingham. Training. We organise training for members, for example on Confident Public Speaking, Researching Family History, Trustee Roles & Responsibilities. Future. We hope in the longer term to establish a focus for Irish Heritage which would include research facilities, archive, library & activity rooms.
