The Future First Project

Future First Is a full-time, alternative education programme for excluded students, young offenders, Young people living in care and generally young people who are disengaged, dissaffected and disruptive to the community and marginalsied in society. Our students are supervised for the full day, including break times, by suitably qualified, CRB checked teaching staff. Future First is designed to re-engage young people with challenging behaviour patterns; the type of behaviour mainstream education is not properly prepared to deal with.  Individual class sizes are usually between 10 to15, thereby, allowing additional 1 on 1 support.

The Future First programme identifies the underlying issues which are affecting the young people and caters for their needs by delivering a self development programme. The course content focuses on: self awareness, assertiveness, decision making, team building, anger management, conflict resolution, IT, literacy, Numeracy, science, arts and crafts, sports, careers guidance and job search. The project is centre-based but some outbound activities like abseiling, go-karting, canoeing and horse riding take place offsite and are related to specific modules within the course (i.e. residential ties in with the team building worksheets). The programme is an alternative educational experience and the activities are geared to ensure the young people are  motivated and their skills are identified and built upon..
