Balaam's Wood is a much loved open space and semi natural ancient woodland. The woodland is recognised a primary woodland, which means it has been in existance since at least 1600.

The woodland is chiefly oak with an underplanting of hazel and is home to the River Rea which meanders through on its journey to join the River Tame.

A haven for wildlife the woodland and adjoining grassland are home to many species; thanks to a rich diversity of habitats.

On 29th February 2008 the woodland and adjoining grassland were designated a nature reserve. From now on the site will be known as Balaam's Wood LNR. This means this lovely area will be protected for everyone to enjoy.

The LNR has its own management committee and we encourage local residents to help us care for this wonderful open space.
