How can I volunteer

Being a volunteer counsellor at ASCA is a rewarding experience.

ASCA's services are designed and run by a small number of paid staff, but without the generosity of volunteers we would not be able to provide the services we do. We can provide you with the opportunity to work with clients with a range of general wellbeing issues including addiction.

Volunteering is as an extension of learning and professional development and, in order to support you with this you will always have a paid staff member, usually a qualified counsellor, on site to talk to.

How do I volunteer as a counsellor ?

Please email the following information to artemis@asca.org.uk

  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • Covering letter/supporting statement outlining why you want to volunteer with ASCA

What next?

Our Counselling Manager will contact you and let you know if we have any opportunities. Please note we recruit throughout the year as and when we need volunteers and therefore we strongly advise you to apply early as well as seek opportunities with other organisations.

Volunteer as a Trustee at ASCA

The Board of Trustees are jointly responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of ASCA, its financial health and developing its aims and objectives in line with the governing document and legal and regulatory guidelines.

If you are someone who would like to make a difference to your community and feel you have the skills, experience and time we would like to hear from you.

Time Commitment

Attendance at upto 6 Trustee Board Meetings (usually two hours long)  and the AGM. Meetings are usually focused, friendly and collaborative in settings goals for ASCA, reviewing progress and addressing any concerns or problems that may arise. There is excellent communication between the management and the Board of Trustees. Meetings are usually held at our premises in Richmond around lunchtime

What difference will you make?

ASCA is facing challenging times along with the rest of the voluntary sector. Increased demands on services, insufficient resources, the impact of Covid-19 and the current state of the economy means that we have to be even more creative with our resources. The staff team and Board of Trustees are incredibly dedicated hard-working people determined to continue to deliver services directly in our community.

What’s in it for you?

  • Make a positive impact to the local community through utilising your skills and experience
  • Help bring change to peoples lives for those struggling with their addiction, mental health, and everday life as well as their families and carers.
  • Meet people from diverse backgrounds and skills and build on relationships with Trustees, staff and volunteers
  • Learn new skills and build on and develop governance, leadership and strategy skills

ASCA is a huge asset to the community and I'm very proud to be part of it

I have thoroughly enjoyed working for ASCA, which has been an excellent learning experience for me. The service is impeccably run and support is always on hand. The fortnightly group supervision was excellent. Learning about addictions and having the opportunity to work for such an important service, which helps so many people in need, has been invaluable to me. The regular training is an amazing opportunity to progress in learning development.

I highly recommend volunteering as a counsellor for this service and specifically addictions.
