UPDATE ON PLANNING APPLICATIONS
You may all be wondering what is happening about the Planning Applications relating to nos. 42-44 Flint Green Road and 1-7 Sherbourne Road. After the flurry of activity a few weeks ago, the plan to demolish 42-44 Flint Green Road and build 11 four-bed houses has been withdrawn. There was a great deal of local opposition to the plans, and as you know from the recent flyer from the Liberal Democrats, our councillors and MP were also opposed. BUT we do not expect that this will be the last of the matter. We expect that there will be a further application in the future.
With this in mind, a group of us arranged a meeting with Councillor Summerfield, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, to discuss with him the possibility of making our area into a Conservation Area. (This does not mean there will be lots of petty rules relating to what you can do to your property; it is to prevent any large-scale or inappropriate developments in our area.) Councillor Summerfield supported our plan, as did Councillor Harmer, and a submission has now gone forward to the Conservation Dept.
As you may know, work at the rear of 1-7 Sherbourne Road started some time ago and the extension at the side of no. 1 was demolished after the fire. However, there has been very little activity on the frontage recently. We will continue to monitor this site.
TRAFFIC IN ARDEN ROAD
Some of you may have been at home when the police carried out a traffic speed survey in Arden Road recently. They booked four people for speeding and warned several. You may also have been asked to fill in a questionnaire asking your opinion about the traffic situation. We hope to have the results of this survey soon.
DOGGY BAGS
The Council has recently stopped giving free doggy bags. The Residents’ Association has purchased a supply and you will shortly be able to get some from Committee Members if you need them. Alternatively, you can get them from the off-licence in the Warwick Road service road or you can buy them from local pound shops.
AUTUMN TIDY-UP
Thanks are due to Helen Roberts and everyone who helped with the Autumn tidy-up around the tree. She has also planted bulbs and plants. We look forward to this area looking really good next year.
BARBECUE 2009
A big thank you is also due to Mandy and Brian Cadge for another superb Barbecue in September. It was great to see so many of our neighbours, both old and new. The food, as always, was excellent and the welcome as warm as ever. We know how much work goes on in advance of these events to ensure everything goes so smoothly on the day – thank you, Mandy and Brian, for another lovely day.
