Audivi vocem de caelo
Audivi vocem de caelo venientem: Oleum recondite in vasis vestris, dum sponsus advenerit. Media nocte clamor factus est. Ecce sponsus venit.
I heard a voice from heaven saying: Lay up the oil in your vessels when the bridegroom cometh. At midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh.
Jeremiah 40:10 & Matthew 25:6
Hear the voice and prayer
Hear the voice and prayer of thy servants, that they make before thee this day. That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, ever toward this place, of which thou hast said: 'My Name shall be there.' And when thou hearest have mercy on them.
If ye love me
If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may bide with you for ever; e'en the Spirit of truth.
John 14
Lamentations
Incipit lamentatio Jeremiae prophetae: ALEPH. Quomode sedet sola civitas plena polulo: facta est quasi vidua domina gentium, princeps provinciarum facta est sub tributo. BETH.
O Lord, give thy Holy Spirit
O Lord, give thy Holy Spirit into our hearts, and lighten our understanding, that we may dwell in the fear of thy name all the days of our life; that we may know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.
O nata lux
O nata lux de lumine, Jesu redemptor saeculi, Dignare clemens supplicum Laudes precesque summere. Qui carne quondam contegi Dignatus es pro perditis, Mos membra confer effici Tui beati corporis.
O Light born of Light, Jesus, redeemer of the world, with loving-kindness deign to receive suppliant praise and prayer. Thou who once deigned to be clothed in flesh for the sake of the lost, grant us to be members of thy blessed body.
10th century hymn. "Cantiones Sacrae" 1575
O sacrum convivium
O sacrum convivium in quo sumitur; recolitur memoria passionis eius, mens impletur gratia; et futurae gloriae nobis pignus datur.
O sacred banquet, wherein Christ is received; the memorial of his passion is renewed; the soul is filled with grace; and a pledge of future glory is given to us.
Antiphon to the Magnificat for Corpus Christi
Salvator mundi
Salvator mundi, salva nos, qui per crucem et sanguinem redemisti nos, auxiliare nobis, te deprecamur, Deus noster.
Save us O Savior of the world,
which by Thy cross and blood hast redeemed us,
help us, we beseech Thee, O our God.
Antiphon at Holy Unction, BCP. "Cantiones Sacrae" 1575
Videte miraculum
Videte miraculum matris Domini: Concepit virgo virilis ignara consortii, stans onerata nobili onere Maria; et matrem se laetam cognosci, quae se nescit uxorem. Haec speciosum forma prae filiis hominum castis concepit visceribus, et benedicta in aeternum Deum nobis protulit et hominem. Gloria Patri et Filio et Spiritui Sancto.
Behold the miracle of the mother of the Lord: a virgin has conceived though she knows not a man, Mary, who stands laden with her heavy burden; knowing not that she is a wife, she rejoices to be a mother. She has conceived in her chaste womb one who is beautiful beyond the sons of men, and, blessed for ever, she has brought forth God and man for us. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.
Respond at 1st Vestpers, Purification of B.V.M.
