Reading the King James Bible
In the beginning ...
Alongside the plays of Shakespeare, the King James Bible is the foundation of many of our everyday phrases and has language which is admired by English speakers the world over.
On Saturday 17th September we spent a day reading from the King James Bible.
A carefully edited text meant that many well known stories were knit together to tell the compelling stories in a mere 10 hours rather than the days that a cover to cover reading would take.
Over sixty local people from around the community read throughout the day. The eldest was 96 but it was one of the youngest who took the Bible from the altar at the very end of the day and processed out with it, so reminding us that, though the words might sometimes feel outdated, the language and the stories it tells, is relevant and meaningful for all.
