School Council Meeting

Friday 25th November 2011

Present

DC, BM, BW, EF, AS, JM, AG, LG, GR, MA, ST

Issues

EF – Stated children are having sweets in pack up.

Reminder text out on Monday

AS – Finding money and not handing it in.

ST to remind children on Monday in assembly.

BW – Throwing stones at windows, it's mainly infants when SC spot them. They tell them to stop it and/or tell the teachers.

ST to speak about this in assembly

 .

H+S

Discussed trim trial – ST explained that we are letting children challenge themselves on the apparatus, but in a controlled area. Individuals should know what they are capable of and not put themselves in danger. Eg. Not jumping from hurdle to hurdle if it really is beyond them.

DC – Children are still playing on the ramp, mainly infants but SC don’t think it’s safe.

Suggestion boxes

Have a trim line in school.

To have a teach super merit top table and lunch time award and Class cup,

ST to talk about it in assembly and staff meeting.

Longer playtimes

Non school uniform on a Thursday and Friday

SC doesn’t think that either of these are reasonable. We do sometimes have longer playtimes as a treat, particularly in the summer and we do have enough non school uniform days.

To discuss with Mrs Jones

- Litter pick nursery adventure playground

- Something for shed

- More toys (Hoopla hoops and skipping ropes)

Big boys mean to little ones

ST to talk about this in assembly.

More playground markings

SC feel that we definitely don’t need more

You do see people on them MA, LG and DC

Want a cooking club on Monday pm.

SC stated that having a cooking club on a Tuesday pm is enough.

Extra golden times

ST stated that this was impossible as teaching time is crucial and teachers struggle to fit

everything in as it is.

Children want more Pyjama parties for KS1 and KS2

ST to ask FoS

DC would like more discos. Once every 4 weeks. We haven’t had a disco for ages!

Another winter Olympics

ST stated that this would happen when we have snow.

Safe Area Maps

Y3. Field, Hall and school building

Y4. Whole field is safe, School buildings and team games area safe.

Y6. Field. Playground. Everywhere is safe apart from car park. And new generation Park.

AOB

Food waste in brown buckets. – Ryan Elviss to empty

Yellow bucket for food waste on the playground – rota for school councillors

New dance for wake and shake

ST to ask Mrs Wilson to devise a new one with Y6

Date of next meeting 9th December 2011

Whole School Assembly

With Mr Peter Johnson, Chair of the Parish Council

Tuesday, 8th November 2011 at 10.20am

Mrs Tate questioned pupils about what they could remember about our involvement with

Mr Johnson. Their answers included:-

  • “We had to have an emergency school council meeting, about the Millenium Park and spending the money on more play equipment.”
  • “We helped him to write letters, because we want more play equipment and not fencing on the football pitch.”

Mr Johnson explained that they now had confirmation of a further £40,000 which could be spent on further equipment.

The children said this was great news and could remember all the pieces of equipment they had asked for: a zip wire, larger climbing frame, sky carver and covered seating areas for the grown-ups.

Some of the children’s comments included:-

Tomas Soles (Y3) “It makes me happy as we will have more to do.”

Bailey Wilde (Y5) “It means we will be safe as there won’t be more fencing for the older kids to climb on.

Lily Goodwin (Y6) “It will be good for the adults to have a place to sit whilst watching us play.”

Charlie Curtis (Y2) “I will have even more fun in there now.”

Mr Johnson explained that he had a very important Parish Council meeting tomorrow night, where this would be officially agreed, and thanked us for all our letters of support.

Mrs Tate asked Alex how he felt and he said that he was ‘ok’ about it but he would have preferred a fenced off football area instead. Mr Johnson replied that the fence was being extended, so this should be ok for him. Alex agreed.

We then gave ourselves a Bean Bag Cheer, to celebrate the successful outcome. It was the biggest cheer yet!

School Council files given out to each councillor- must keep them up to date and organised. Files to be bright o each meeting.

Rules of the meetings outlined -
no naming of individual pupils
Listen to each other
Put your hand up if you wish to speak

ST gave update on the Millennium Park  project. Mr Peter Johnson had stopped ST in the street to say a thank you for all the letter of support, photos and minutes. He had sent it off and was visiting the council shortly to discuss it.
He will pop into school when he finds out more.

Health & Safety

JM - children are throwing balls dangerously at lunchtime
BM - climbing on trees near picnic bench
MA - climbing on tree outside Y2
EF - climbing on fences
DC - rough play at times
BW - trying to break windows with heavy stones near trim trail
AS - large tyre rough play

All agreed that ST should talk about these issues in assembly and that should be enough .
Stone throwing at the windows is more serious and ST to be given names as we gave had complaints from the owner of the workshops previously.

ST explained that the shoe box suggestion boxes have been waiting to be used for ages- all agreed to meet Monday lunchtime to decorate them and then will be ready to put into classes and use.

Y2 had some suggestions for the Community Nature Area - they want woodland sculptures in there eg. Squirrels, owls, birds, fox, caterpillars, ladybirds and badgers.
They had seen some in Cleethorpes on the school trip and the whole class really liked them.

ST explained that Mrs  Davidson needed the  the paper recycling boxes in each class emptying on a Friday morning after assembly, Ben to help with this.
School council to do it this week after the meeting.

Eco Code suggestions discussed- Mrs Daly to add it to the display outside Y6 once suggestions had been agreed.

Mrs Jones asked School council to think of how we could best organise recycling of fruit and veg waste as the greening club need it for the allotment.

Emergency School Council Meeting

Thursday 8th September

Present

Mrs Tate (Head teacher), Mr Johnson ( chair of the Parish Council) Miss Smith
Lilly  Goodwin, Declan Clarke, Brandon Marshall, Jessica Murray, Aleisha Smith, Alex Goodwin, Thomas Rout absent, Millie Appleyard, Ethan Freeston, Bailey Wilde

  • Photos taken for school website
  • Files to be given out at the next meeting
  • Mrs Tate and Mr Johnson explained that he had come to ask for our help and had spoke briefly to Lily, Declan and Brandon yesterday and they thought that we could all help.
  • Millennium Park had money spent on it - new wonderful equipment, however, now needed final work completing which includes completion of the MUGA at a cost of approx £27000. This was asked for by children of the school.
  • Children stated that they like the basket ball and football area as it is, as there is not a massive problem with the ball fetching and the older pupils just climb on the fencing anyway (Lily and Declan).
  • Brandon stated that he would rather have more equipment than it be enclosed.
  • Alex Goodwin felt that the MUGA needs completing as he likes Football..
  • Mr Johnson shared the plans and pictures of the extra equipment which could be acquired if the fencing was not bought:-

x1 zip wire

x1 Sky Carver

x1 older pupils climbing frame

x1 shelter and seating area

  • All liked the equipment and were very excited about the zip wire.
  • Lilly stated that it would be much better to have an older persons climbing frame and so then the teenagers would stay off the junior equipment.
  • Vote was taken:-

8 for extra equipment

1 for completing the MUGA fencing

Meeting ended as School Council needed to share this information in assembly and ask the whole school to vote.
